Skeena Archival Document Retrieval Project
Seminal salmon research initiated in the 1940s by the DFO Fisheries Research Board vastly increased Skeena salmon baseline information. That initiative, known as the Skeena Investigation, facilitated overall understanding and knowledge in regard to species, habitat and ecosystem dynamics, as well as First Nation and commercial fishery trends. The information is important due to the historic and present differences involving species composition and abundance, the status of habitats, and catch data. This fisheries information is also significant in providing historical context for the complex human and fisheries relationships in the Skeena Basin. This project scanned documents from the Skeena Investigation into pdf format, catalogued them by keyword, and entered them into a reference database.
