Kitwanga Steelhead Assessment using DIDSON
This project provided equipment that can be used to evaluate abundance trends for summer run steelhead populations in the lower-middle Skeena watershed. A dual-frequency identification sonar (DIDSON) was purchased to provide BC’s Ministry of Environment with the means to produce annual abundance data on the Kitwanga River, one of the lower spawning tributaries of the Skeena River. The DIDSON functions as an “acoustic camera” that allows the identification of fish in turbid water.
